IQON Quito

Quito, Ecuador

2022

Mixed-Use Highrise

390,000sf

IQON is Quito's tallest building, located at the Eastern edge of the Andean city's La Carolina park. The building is expressed as a stack of room scale concrete boxes that rotate towards the best views and shift from floor to floor to create outdoor terraces for residents. Tree planters are integrated in the structural walls of the facade expressed as board form textured concrete that helps regulate the building temperature in the unique equatorial local climate.

Mixed-Use Highrise

EPIQ is a mixed-use building at the Southern tip of La Carolina park in Quito, Ecuador. A series of green amenity terraces break up the overall mass of the building and separate it into distinct volumes - 'buildings withing a building'. Each volume is clad in a different shade of rose colored tiles referencing the sidewalks of the UNESCO heritage historic center of Quito.

Higher Education/Laboratory

160,000sf

The Robert Day Sciences Center is will house the Kravis Integrated Sciences department at Claremont McKenna College - one of the top 10 US liberal arts colleges. The building design aims to break down barriers between disciplines and encourage cross pollination of ideas. The jenga-like appearance of the building is created by rotating each floor 45 degrees to the next, which results in shaded outdoor terraces and a light-filled central atrium that encourages social interactions between students, faculty and visitors.

KING Toronto

Toronto, Canada

2018

Mixed-Use

880,950sf

KING Toronto is a large scale mixed use project that occupies an entire city block at the intersection of the skyscrapers of downtown Toronto and the low-rise residential neighborhoods of King West. The building is arranged around a central mid-block courtyard that serves as a connector and negotiates existing heritage buildings that needed to be preserved. Instead of the conventional tower + podium model, KING proposes a new type of human centered architecture: A building shaped like a mountain to provide outdoor terraces for all apartments, unexpected view corridors and let light and air reach deep into the courtyard.

Designed by Lorenz Krisai during his time at BIG.

S.Pellegrino Flagship Factory

San Pellegrino Terme, Italy

2016

Industrial

400,000 sf

The design for the new S.Pellegrino Flagship Factory is inspired by the production process of the world famous sparkling water, which makes its way through the rocks of the alps in a 30-year journey before emerging, enriched with minerals at the source in the Brembo Valley, an hour North of Bergamo, Italy. A functional grid of concrete walls with arched cutouts creates a sculptural and organic appearance, marrying influences of the inviting Italian arcades and the restrained alpine architecture.
